Native to China, Japan and Formosa, the genus Photinia consists of about 60 species of shrubs of the Rosaceae family. They are fast-growing plants, which can grow to over three metres in height, provided they are cared for as little as possible. Among the various varieties, the most widespread today because of its beauty and easy maintenance is P. x fraseri 'Red Robin'.
